We’re on NPR!
I got home from school today and my phone beeped with a text. One of my friends asked in all caps, WERE YOU JUST ON NPR? A little confused, I asked when she’d heard the radio episode and how she knew. Apparently, one of her teachers had told her it was on, and she caught the last few minutes. Here’s the link if you want to check it out!
We recorded the interview in March at an event Back to Space held to unveil a painting by Dallas-based artist Maciej Maga. The painting was enormous, taller than me, and showed ten of the Apollo astronauts. Three of the astronauts in the painting– Buzz Aldrin, Al Worden, and Walter Cunningham– were at the event. Several of the Ambassadors and I were there to unveil the painting. Afterwards, a man with a handheld recorder approached the group of us onstage. “Can I borrow some of you for a radio interview?” He asked.

He then told us that not all of us needed to go, but of course we did! We left the main room for a quieter space, and all five of us crammed together onto a couch. The man’s name was Mr. Bill Zeeble; he said the radio show would play on NPR/KERA later, although he didn’t know exactly when. We all took turns speaking into the microphone on the audio recorder about our experiences with STEM and Back to Space. I was so excited to hear that the interview aired today! The event was incredible (you can read more about it here) and I’m so glad we got to share that with so many people!
